Workshop on Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Education of a student is never complete without the proper understanding of industrial standards. To give the students of VVIT a flavor of Industrial techniques that are currently in use, VVIT Guntur ACM Student Chapter organized a workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning on 26 February, 2018.

Srikanth Varna, resource person for the day is the cofounder of AAIC Technologies Pvt. Ltd. He did his Masters in Engineering from IISC, Bangalore during 2007-2009. He has about a decade of experience applying Machine Learning and AI techniques in the industry across the world at companies like Amazon.com, Yahoo! Labs etc. Most recently he worked as a senior Machine Learning Scientist for Amazon.com in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley. He has mentored tens of students and Machine Learning scientists in the course of his career. He has extensive knowledge in building world class AI products for some of the best tech companies in the world.

The students of Departments of Computer Science and Information Technology participated in the workshop.

The workshop started off by addressing the students. The Principal of the host Institute (VVIT) elucidated the importance of having knowledge of the emerging technologies. He said that students should always be eager to embrace the latest technology to find the optimal solutions to the existing real world problems.

The workshop geared up with the introduction to Artificial Intelligence (A.I), presented by Mr. Varna. The speaker then described how the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are related and also answered some of the most controversial questions regarding its applications. He shared some of his experiences working with A.I products in his career and illustrated the working of Amazon’s Recommendation Engine to the students.

After the demonstration of Amazon’s Recommendation Engine, there was a small Question and Answer session in which the speaker clarified the doubts of the students. The students were excited to know about the usage of the A.I in the real world scenario and expressed their desire to work on it.

The session came to an end with the felicitation of the speaker Srikanth Varna by Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, VVIT.The officers of VVIT Guntur ACM Student Chapter and its faculty sponsor thanked Mr. Srikanth Varna for spending his precious time with the students of VVIT and sharing with them his experience on the Artificial Intelligence
